RCX vs. NXT

The RCX is LEGO’s first generation of Mindstorms microcontroller. The RCX contains a CPU that executes programmed code. Programming is accomplished via a special infrared interface. After the program is begun, the RCX-enabled Mindstorms creation may function totally on its own, acting on internal and external stimuli according to the programmed instructions.

- Inter-brick communication allows for enhanced cooperation and competition with the camper’s robots. Create a chorus of singing RCX bricks.

- Experience Aim for the Stars’ 30,000+ piece LEGO block collection.

- Test your driving skills when you weave your robotic motorized vehicle through a challenging ability course. Can you make it though without knocking over any cones?

The NXT is LEGO’s second generation microcontroller. The NXT also contains a CPU that executes programmed code. The NXT’s updated firmware supports an ultrasonic sensor that allows the robot to react to movement and distance. The on board Bluetooth controller offers a way to control robots remotely through another NXT brick. The NXT is used in the NXT Engineering camps.

- Remotely control a cave exploration robot and gather important information about its interior.

- In NXT Engineering II learn how to build complex programs from multiple files. The “Rock-Paper-Scissors” games is used to showcase topics like variables and data types.

- Pit your robot’s strength and your programming skills against your campmates in a tournament of Sumo matches.
