The University of Nebraska at Omaha Physics Department welcomes you to Aim for the Stars Summer Science and Math Camp! There is a 1:8 adult to camper ratio at Aim for the Stars. Our staff members are chosen based on their rapport with children, knowledge of the subject matter and love of learning. The majority of the staff has been trained in first aid, CPR (adult and child) and diversity. Our staff members return yearly because the Aim for the Stars’ work ethic and atmosphere are exemplary. Your child will learn so much and enjoy every moment of Aim for the Stars Summer Science and Math Camp!

8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday beginning each Monday from June 4 - August 10 with no camps offered the week of July 2 - 6.

All sessions of Aim for the Stars Summer Science and Math Camp will begin and end in the Durham Science Center, located on the northwest corner of the north campus of the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Handicapped parking is available on the east and west sides of the Durham Science Building.

To accommodate families who need to drop campers off early or pick them up late, care will be provided from 7:30 a.m. through 5:30 p.m. daily. There will be an additional fee of $25 per student per week of camp for before and after care or $10 per student per week for just before care or $20 per student per week for just after care.

Dismissal each afternoon is from Durham Science Center room 116. Each child is dismissed directly to her/his parent or guardian. It can get crowded as each child is called from a large group as parents and guardians arrive. You may want your older camper to meet you outside the Durham Science Center near the west parking lot. Please park in the spaces in LOT G and the children will come to you. There will be plenty of adult supervision. Children must have written permission to leave the building unaccompanied at the end of the day. With permission, campers may sign themselves out after camp. (Not allowed for third graders.) This arrangement must be made by the week, not daily. Please call for more information.

Gameboys, cell phones, ipods and the like are to be kept at home. They may not be used at Aim for the Stars. If the device is being used outside of before or after care, counselors and/or teachers will confiscate and send the device to the camp director. It will be returned at the end of the day. No sooner. The misuse of such machinery during camp and the amount of lost/”stolen” games has led to this rule.
Use of cell phones to call or receive calls from parents or others is discouraged during camp hours, including the lunch period. There is a telephone in each room and teachers carry cell phones on field trips that may be used for emergency calls to parents. Parents should call 554-4999 if they need to speak to a child. Cell phones do not operate well in this building.

All campers need to bring a sack lunch daily. There is Kool- Aid to drink at lunchtime and an afternoon treat is also provided. A refrigerator is available in each classroom.

On Thursday evening during each camp week, families may visit the rooms of that week’s camp sessions. Families will see CAPOW! and planetarium shows. (A schedule for the evening will be sent home with your child.)

Aim for the Stars participants will receive a camp t-shirt, a $5 gift certificate to the Mallory Kountze Planetarium Science Store, a gift certificate good for any one UNO Maverick home athletic event during the 2012 – 2013 season (with some exclusions) and a gift certificate to Hobby Town!
